Recumbent cycling advantages
Very comfortable to use
Major muscle groups working
Back is supported
Hands are free to use
More efficient fat burner and heart, lung exerciser
A recumbent cycle provides a wide comfortable seat and
a back support rest.
- The back support allows you to
sit with your shoulders back and relaxed. Your lungs
are open, instead of restricted
as when leaning forward on an upright cycle.
- As you are not steering the cycle,
handlebars are not needed. You tend to lean forward onto
handlebars on an upright
cycle, closing off your lungs and putting stra\in on your lower back.
- No handlebars
also means your hands are free to do other things, such
as read a book or magazine.
- The range of motion through
the legs and buttocks is greater on a recumbent cycle.
The knee moves higher into
the cycling rotation using the large muscles in the upper leg (quadriceps).
Also, the
muscles in your buttocks (glutes) are being used.
With more of the larger muscles working, the easier it is to reach your target
heart
rate zone and keep it there.
- The lower seat position
of the recumbent cycle makes easy access onto the cycle.
Your not havinh to lift your
leg up over the mounting to get onto the cycle.
- Recumbent cycling is especially
ideal for special population users such as pregnant
women, lower back pain sufferers
and the elderly.
